Narrative Description of Project:
The study covered the cities of Buraydah, Taif, Abha, Khamis Mushayt, Hail, Najran, Tabuk, Hofuf and Al-Khobar.

The scope of the project comprised, for each of the above cities, all the studies needed for assessing immediate, short-term and long-term needs for public transport, evaluation and feasibility of various transportation systems and the planning and design of the chosen system for the planning periods considered.

Description of Actual Services Provided:

For each town a detailed evaluation and updating was performed of the existing land use and future urban plans. Transportation and socio-economic surveys were undertaken, including traffic counts, O-D surveys, and place of work interviews, attitude interviews and travel delay studies. The results of these surveys were organized into a data base for demand analysis and establishing desire lines identifying major travel corridors. Various public transport systems were evaluated and the chosen system was detailed in terms of short-term and long-term implementation strategy. This included routes, stops, operating characteristics, service and maintenance facilities and equipment, manpower requirements and management systems.
