Design of the Rehabilitation of the Zobdol – Machghara Road (Khirbet Kanafar – Machghara Section)
Ministry of Public Works – Directorate of Roads
Transportation & Highway
1998 – 2000
Narrative Description of Project:
The project lies in the Beqaa Gharbi. It has a hillside location along the eastern slopes of Mount-Lebanon overlooking the Beqaa Valley and the Litani River. It is a scenic highway that links the towns of Khirbet Kanafar – Saghbine – Aitanit – Machghara, totaling 15.5 km in length. It is also a link on the road connecting Beqaa to the South via Jezzine.
Due to its alignment, it is a winding narrow road with severe topographic constraints with built or cultivated properties on either side.
Spot improvements are proposed within the same corridor with the objective of improving capacity and safety, while still requiring minimum expropriation. The scenic character of the road is retained, and its extreme sinuosity is reduced.
Job includes reconnaissance, proposal for an improvement strategy, detailed design, and Tender Documents for a section to be given priority.
Description of Actual Services Provided:
All above except soil testing and topo-surveys were subcontracted.
